Harness the power of writing? What?
Writing taps into your creativity, focuses your energy, and aligns your staff and customers with your business vision. Seriously....read on.
Why don't you write?
- Not enough time? That excuse works for anything, try again.
- Don't know how? You made it this far in life; I'm sure you've written something, try again.
- Don't have an audience? You have staff, members and customers, try again.
- Intimidated? Yes, fair enough.
My secrets:
- Just do it. Keep in mind that people are forgiving, plus you will get better with experience.
- Use spell check.
- Write how you speak.
- Don't stress about grammar, make it flow, make it readable.
- Have a spouse or friend proof it.
- Write to your audience, think of a specific person, and write to that person. Most of my newsletters spark from conversations with customers.
- Use your gender, don't worry about he/she stuff....if you're a guy use he, if you're a gal use she.
The benefits:
- You unlock amazing ideas that have secretly been stored in your subconscious. If you've never given yourself time or permission to think, you'll get frustrated at first, but stick with it.
- Your staff and your customers will have direct access to your vision, your thoughts, your personality. Obviously, you're emailing your newsletters and posting them on your website.
- You become personal, easier to do business with, and easier to access.
- You will become wildly successful (trust me, it takes time but it will pay off).
Who should write?
- The owner - yes - at least annually.
- The GM - yes - at least monthly.
- Directors - depending on your facility...have at least one of them contribute to your monthly update. Everyone at a director level has skills and experiences that others don't. If they don't, you have the wrong the people. The superintendent knows how and when to treat weeds, that is relevant to every customer that owns a lawn, (especially mine). The F&B Director knows how to plan the perfect party...oh by the way, plug your catering services.
