New Facebook Features that Drive Business.

If you’re like over 155 million other Americans, you have a personal profile page on Facebook.  You may even visit your page on a daily basis like over 50% of all Facebook users.  With nearly 80 million Americans visiting Facebook every day and each of them having 130 “friends” on average, there are tremendous opportunities for businesses to grow new revenue streams through their Facebook business pages. The question then becomes:  how can Facebook really help your business get in front of more customers?

The numbers prove that the folks at Facebook are no dummies when it comes to catching people’s attention and building loyalty. A recent story revealed that half a billion (with a “b”) people logged into the site on a recent day. To get your share of that audience, make use of 3 great enhancements recently implemented by Facebook: bigger photos, Top News and the Ticker.

BIGGER IS BETTER: If a picture is worth a thousand words, a bigger one is worth even more. The improved picture feature allows your images to fill up more of the page, so take advantage of that real estate. If you don’t have a really good camera for your course, get one. The $200-500 you spend on a Sony Cybershot or Canon Power-Shot and the time you expend shooting your events and uploading them to Facebook is well worth it.

As you post photos, be sure to describe the event pictured and tag your golfers in them. Before you know it, pictures of happy people on your course will be showing up as Top News on other people’s pages.

PUSH IT TO THE TOP: Speaking of Top News, the way to move a regular post into “Top News” status is to drive follow on activities such as comments, “likes” or sharing. (Facebook is designed to emphasize content it thinks a customer will find interesting based on their past behavior at the site.)

Take the lead by commenting on your posts and pictures and then follow the conversation. A little banter will get other golfers and friends jumping in with their two cents which will move the story to a more prominent place on peoples’ newsfeeds. In addition to posting photos and specials, be sure to ask an open question from time to time then stay in the conversation that follows.

A STRONG TICKER MATTERS: That conversation you’re fostering to stay in “Top News” will also appear in real time in participant’s Tickers (also visible to all of their friends).

You’ll get the most out of the Ticker by encouraging interaction. Every golfer’s “like”, comment or “share” will appear in their friends’ tickers. Stir that kind of activity by posting, tagging and commenting at least once a day. The conversations you encourage, especially the lighthearted or informational ones, are more likely to draw clicks from others and build awareness of your course as a place to learn, have fun and make friends. Putting the “social” in your course will bring more people out to play.
