Rick Sargent's Golf Instruction

Rick Sargents Golf Instruction, Kissimmee Golf School  Rick Sargents Golf Instruction, Kissimmee Golf School

Rick Sargent is a PGA Professional and the Director of Instruction at Rick Sargents Golf Instruction/Kissimmee Golf School at the Kissimmee Bay Country Club and the Remington Golf Club. Each year since the late 1980's Rick has taught hundreds of students. Rick's successful teaching technique at Rick Sargents Golf Instruction/Kissimmee Golf School is the result of his common sense approach to his instruction and his emphasis on the "FUN"damentals. According to Rick:

"No two golf swings are alike, however, there are key positions that are consistent in most every good player."

As a result of this basic understanding, Rick Sargents Golf Instruction/Kissimmee Golf School emphasizes the proper application of these positions without ignoring the strengths and limitations of each student.

Another important element of Rick Sargents Golf Instruction/Kissimmee Golf School instruction is Rick's relaxed, light-hearted approach to his instruction:

"If you can't laugh at your mistakes, I'm probably not the teacher for you.  The plan is to learn together, and have FUN throughout the process."

FAIRWAY BUNKER SHOTS

These shots are not nearly as difficult as we tend to make them. Here are a few simple thoughts to consider next time you encounter a fairway bunker shot...

Club selection. Two things to consider: First, take an extra club to make up for the lack of power from less leg action and more ball spin. Second, your #1 priority is to get out of the bunker so make sure to use a club with enough loft to clear the bunker's lip.

Ball position. Since it is imperative to strike the ball first, position the ball further back in your stance with hands a bit forward(towards target).

Eye focus. Normally, your focus should be on the back of the ball to insure clean contact from the fairway. From a fairway bunker, focus on the front of the ball or even a 1/4 inch in front of the ball. As long as the you clear the bunker's lip, a "thin" shot is far better than a "fat" one.

NOTICE these are all pre-shot considerations-- not SWING thoughts. Your normal swing is fine. Believe in it and the shot will come off just as if you were in the fairway.

About Rick

Despite his own accomplishments and his 30-plus years of experience in the golf business as an accomplished player, golf course operator and instructor, Rick Sargent instead credits his mentor (and Hall of Fame Golf Coach) Gene Miranda for much of his success. While a cadet under Gene Miranda's tutelage at the US Air Force Academy, Rick was a two-time All American.

After his graduation "Lieutenant Sargent" (later "Captain Sargent") won a Worldwide All-Service Golf Championship, two All-Air Force Golf Championships -- plus occasional giving a "Lesson to the Brass" -- while serving as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Air Force.

After his Air Force service, Rick quickly found himself working as the Manager/Head Professional/Director of Instruction at a semi-private golf facility in Central Florida, where he remained for over 20 years. During that time, he was instrumental in the formation of an annual Junior Golf Camp, he searved as Golf Coach for a local High School, founded a gold school and annually taught hundreds of lessons.

In 1994 Rick achieved membership in the PGA which expanded his educational and playing opportunities. As one of the top golfers in the North Florida Section, he has won numerous events and awards, including being named the 2009 NFPGA Senior Player of the Year.

Rick is currently the Director of Instruction for Rick Sargents Golf Instruction/Kissimmee Golf School, which is affiliated with the Remington Golf Club and the Kissimmee Bay Country Club.
