New Jersey Custom Golf, Inc.

CUSTOM GOLF SPECIALIST

Our main goal with our customers, be it beginner or accomplished club professional, is to optimize their ability and maximize the performance of every club in their bag. This is achieved by using shafts that perform based on the required needs of the individual. Our approach is not cookie cutter where everyone gets the same as the next. Each individual has inherent strengths and weaknesses which is also related to their athletic ability.

A golf club that is set up appropriately should provide consistent results on well struck shots and better than average results on slight miss hits. Shafts that are too heavy or stiff can impart too much spin on the ball as well as shafts that are too weak. Finding the perfect marriage of a golf shaft to a head is what we do best.
A 14 degree driver with a 55 gram shaft at 43 inches might be perfect for a 72mph driver swing speed as opposed to a 9 degree driver with a 95 gram shaft at 44.5 inches with a 115 mph swing speed. Two distinctly different setups for two totally different players….customized to fit their playing profile.

EQUIPMENT ANALYSIS

A full equipment analysis consists of an evaluation of the driver thru putter and takes approximately 1.5 hours.  During this evaluation you will be required to hit a number of shots with your own equipment or one of our demo clubs. Ball flight data will be recorded and reviewed with you so that you fully understand each category and how they affect each other. At this time if we feel as though the shaft is producing undesirable results we will remove it and the club will be re-shafted with our recommendation and than re-evaluated to make absolutely certain that we have produced a better performing golf club.

This is the only clinically objective way of knowing how well a shaft will perform for the individual golfer. We do not assume a shaft will perform in your golf club unless we physically install it, and allow you, the customer, be re-evaluated to make absolutely sure it is the right choice.

SET MAKEUP

This type of equipment analysis is also beneficial in determining how your bag should be set up:
~What loft, in my driver, will allow me to acquire the most distance?
~Would I be better off with a 7 wood, 3 iron, or hybrid?
~How many fairway woods should I carry?
~What length, lie angle, and shaft flex do I need?
~Is my putter right for me?
~How many wedges should I carry? What bounce do I need?
~How far do I really hit my 7 iron?

All of these questions and many more will be answered during your one on one session. Everyone has a favorite club in their bag that they feel confident with and assured that their chances of hitting a good shot are attainable. Imagine having that same feeling with the set you take to the course. There is no reason that this technology should not be applied to your own equipment.

Q&A SECTION

 Q:
I'm a beginning golfer and have taken a few lessons. Should I go and purchase a set of clubs now or wait for my lesson series to be over?

A: Having the Bill Britton Golf School at our central location, this is a question we are frequently asked. If you are a beginning golfer and someone is suggesting or trying to sell you a set of clubs, which is typically 14 clubs, run away as fast as your legs enable you. First things first… you are a beginner, less clubs at this time in the developmental phase is better. We typically will make this customer a short set consisting of a lofted fairway wood that they can tee off with as well as use from the fairway. Possibly a hybrid, and a short set of irons,  a 6-8-PW-SW and a putter. With this type of set they can actually go to the golf course and play. Additional clubs can be purchased as their ability increases. It's also a good idea, if a short set is not appropriate at the time, to at least have one club made that is the right length, weight, flex, loft and lie angle , so you can truly benefit from the lessons you are taking.

Q: Are custom clubs really better than what we find in the bigger retail chains?

A: Our fitting process for a custom set of irons for instance can take up to 1.5 hours. The reason for this is that certain choices have to be exhausted in order to make sure that we are providing you with the best fit possible. The first step is picking the appropriate style of iron based on the players ability as well as what is visually appealing:
~Forged or cast
~Muscle back or Cavity Back
~High Polish Finish , Satin Or Raw
~Offset-Non Offset
~Game Improvement
The shaft, without a doubt, is critically important in the process of making the club not only feel good but in also providing a high launch condition  with a penetrating flight to produce the most attainable distance possible. This is where the majority of time is spent in determining what weight, flex, length , loft and lie produce the best possible combination to maximize the golfers ability. Demo irons are built to a customers specs until we achieve the desired results. All of the data is shown to the customer and gone over with them so they feel 100% sure they are making an educated purchase. Our ability to produce a truly custom club is because of our access to certain types of steel and graphite shafts that the major manufacturers do not have as choices in there lines of irons, fairway woods, and drivers. At this point in time you can only get  light, senior, regular, stiff, and x-flex from the major manufacturers. We can produce all of these as well as soft regular, firm, and stiff +.

Q: My driver seems to back up in the fairway producing little to no forward roll. Do you think I need a new driver?

 A:
A few things could contribute to this scenario. A steep angle of attack into the ball will impart more backspin, much like an iron, which could cause this. It could also be caused by a shaft that is too weak but once again an analysis would certainly determine the actual cause and effect.

Q: Are “knockoffs or copies” of the brand name manufacturers just as good?

A: New Jersey Custom Golf, Inc. does not use “knockoffs or copies”. We take pride in providing our customers with the highest quality heads and shafts that are currently available from major manufacturers.

FITTING FOR WOMEN

The standard makeup of a set of clubs has changed over the course of the last 5 years for both men and women. More manufacturers have implemented the common philosophy of replacing the harder to hit lower irons with easier to hit hybrids or more lofted fairway woods. We have found a unique pattern with the women we have custom fit or have gone through our full equipment analysis. Many hit their 7 wood further and more consistently than their 3 & 5 wood. This is because the 7 wood has more loft and is also shorter which makes it easier to control. Some have a tendency to hit a few irons in their set the same distance. This is mainly due to a lack of  sufficient club head speed and not truly compressing the ball in the striking area. These particular scenarios are fully addressed and recommendations are than made based on the individual's specific needs. Properly fit clubs and the correct set makeup are equally important to produce quality shots.

If you already own a set of clubs it is a good idea to have them evaluated to make sure that they are right for you. Many women that we see are playing with clubs that are too long for them. This does not mean they need a new set. The set can be altered to fit the golfer more appropriately for a reasonable fee.
